This is Part 2 of my #ColdChainIndia journey from a manufacturing unit in Bengaluru to ColdStar’s state-of-the-art cold storage warehouse in Mumbai. If you’ve missed the first part, read it here.

With its ability to store multi-commodity products at varying temperature requirements, ColdStar maintains standardized storage processes throughout its cold storage facility. The ColdStar warehouse is compliant with the global warehousing norm of Good Storage and Distribution Practices (GSDP), ensuring maximum product efficacy. Each product that arrives at the warehouse goes through standardized checks including temperature monitoring, before, during and after, ensuring no quality damages to the product. The ColdStar warehouse is also FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved, one of the only cold storages in the region. Trained and professional personnel at the ColdStar warehouse swear by high quality and hygiene standards throughout the process of storing their client’s product. In addition to the above, the ColdStar warehouse is licensed under FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). I went through the same standardized process when I reached the ColdStar warehouse, completely managed by trained and professional personnel.

After my comfortable and uninterrupted 3 day journey from Bengaluru in ColdStar’s truck, I arrived at the ColdStar warehouse in Mumbai. The ColdStar personnel, who were designated to my consignment carefully unloaded me in the docking area. Here, the ColdStar personnel made sure to monitor and keep record of the temperature of the entire batch of boxes with me, at every stage of the unloading process. In the case of Pharmaceutical products like me, visual detection of product spoilage is rare. Therefore, it becomes essential to check the temperature to detect any possible risks or material/quality damages to the product. The next step was sorting, where I was segregated according to my batch number/expiry date, barcoded and recorded on ColdStar’s proprietary Warehouse Management System.

Following this, the segregated batches of product were carefully put into pallets. Without any delay, I was stored in one of the chamber of the ColdStar’s Warehouse, while maintaining my temperature requirements. The chamber at the warehouse was well-built, equipped with fully automated cooling and temperature monitoring systems. Integrating conventional processes with modern systems and technology, the resulting solution provides detailed, real time, information access to the ColdStar staff and my manufacturer.

The ColdStar chamber is specially built to maximize storage capacity and chamber density. The chamber I was placed in had a fully automated temperature and stock monitoring systems to keep track of the inventory details, monitor, control and regulate temperature. Each chamber in ColdStar’s warehouse can be maintained at its own temperatures, allowing the storage of multiple commodities at any given time.

The entire facility follows and maintains strict international standards and is therefore one of the only FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved facilities in the region! Moreover, it is GSDP complaint, keeping the promise of international quality, integrated, cold chain services.

Taking full responsibility of maintaining the overall quality and integrity of the product, the ColdStar personnel stored me in a dry, well lit chamber with adequate ventilation and out of direct exposure to sunlight. The staff at ColdStar would regularly clean and disinfect the area regularly. ColdStar went the extra mile to ensure security at the warehouse by installing accessible fire safety mechanisms at the warehouse. Also, in case of emergency requirements the ColdStar warehouse had a double gen set power back-up mechanism, to maintain appropriate temperature throughout the storage timeline of the product.
